Jim Scott Community Center

Welcome to TaxAide at the Jim Scott Community Center

We are looking forward to helping you this year. We will be doing taxes on most Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, starting on Tuesday, January 30.  WE ARE CLOSED ON February 17, March 26, 28, and April 2. Our last day open will be Saturday, April 13.

We will be making appointments and taking walk-ins subject to having room in the schedule and for people to wait their turn. After you have all the necessary tax documents for us to prepare your return, please go online to schedule an appointment. You should either download or pick up a copy of the intake and any necessary supplemental forms and fill them out before coming in for your appointment. We expect to post the first few weeks of appointment times by January 17 and not before January 10.

Photo ID is required for all Taxpayers and Spouse (if married).  You must bring Social Security Cards (not just the numbers) for all people claimed on the tax return, OR bring the tax return that we did for you last year and social security card(s) for any new potential dependents or spouse.

How Your Tax Return Will Be Prepared

On the day of your tax appointment, your counselor will review your documents, discuss your information, and prepare your return. Then, another counselor will quality review your return, and print it for your signature. Once you (and your spouse, if filing jointly) have signed the return, we will efile it for you and send you home with your documents and a copy of your return for your records.

Contact us with any questions

Please email us at providencetaxaide@gmail.com. Someone will be monitoring the email beginning January 24.  After January 24, you can leave a voicemail on our google voice number, 703-496-4170.  Leave your name, phone number, and a brief message and someone will call you back within 72 hours.

Step 1: Ensure we can prepare your return

We can help with most, but not all tax returns, so be sure to read the list of items of returns we cannot prepare.

Step 2: Obtain and fill out the Forms Packets

Complete a forms packet for each year. For example, to file your taxes for both 2023 and 2022, download and complete 2 packets. We will need you to fill out a different intake form for years before 2023, which you can obtain at our site when we are open.

Download and print the main intake form for 2023:

TaxAide Intake/Interview & Quality Review Sheet

Fill out the intake form.  Review the information you will need to bring, and please download and fill out the appropriate form(s) from the Supplemental Forms page

Alternatively, you can pick up the intake and supplemental forms at the front desk at the Jim Scott Community Center (formerly known as the Providence Community Center) during their operating hours, beginning January 18.

Step 3: Make an Appointment

Once you have received all the necessary tax documents for us to prepare your return, go to our SignUp Genius link and pick an appointment time.  We will be opening up appointment times a couple weeks at a time, so check back later if you aren’t able to find an appointment time when you check the first time. Make one appointment for each return you want us to prepare. Married filing jointly is one return.  Filing returns for 2023 and 2022 is two returns.

You will receive a reminder email from SignUpGenius a day or two before your appointment. Let us know as soon as possible if you need to reschedule your appointment so we can help as many people as possible.

Step 4: Prepare for your Appointment

Please reschedule your appointment if you aren’t feeling well.  Call us at 703-496-4170 or send an email to providencetaxaide@gmail.com as soon as you know you aren’t coming, and we will contact you to reschedule your appointment.
